Brass

Brass is a metallic alloy composed primarily of copper and zinc, although other elements can be added to produce variations with specific properties. It is a widely used material in various applications due to its unique combination of properties, including its attractive appearance, good malleability, and excellent corrosion resistance. Here are some key characteristics and common uses of brass:

  1. Composition: The most common brass alloy is made up of copper (typically around 60-70%) and zinc (around 30-40%). Small amounts of other elements, such as lead or tin, may be added to achieve specific characteristics.

  2. Color: Brass has a distinctive golden or yellowish appearance, making it a popular choice for decorative and ornamental applications.

  3. Corrosion Resistance: Brass has excellent corrosion resistance, which makes it suitable for use in marine environments and outdoor applications. Over time, brass may develop a patina, which is a greenish or brownish film on the surface, but this patina actually helps protect the underlying metal from further corrosion.

  4. Thermal and Electrical Conductivity: Brass is a good conductor of heat and electricity. It is used in electrical components and heat exchangers.
